Hold onto your seat! This is how planet Earth, better known as Blito-P3, is viewed by the crew of Mission Earth, headed by Royal Combat Engineer Jettero Heller from the planet Voltar, assisted by the Countess Krak, who is feared as one of the deadliest assassins in the entire confederacy. WHO WAS L. RON HUBBARD?
|
||
With 22 New York Times bestsellers and more than 230,000,000 copies of his works in circulation, L. Ron Hubbard is among the most acclaimed and widely read authors of our time. As a leading light of American Pulp Fiction through the 1930's and 40's, he is further among the most influential authors of the modern age. Indeed, from Ray Bradbury to Stephen King, there is scarcely a master of imaginative tales who has not paid tribute to L. Ron Hubbard. In celebration of his fiftieth anniversary as an author, he again returned to the forefront of popular literature with his monumental epics Battlefield Earth and the ten-volume Mission Earth series. Together, these titles dominated international bestseller lists for 153 weeks, and still remain among the all time classic works of modern speculative fiction.
Some of the characters you will meet in Mission Earth are so outrageous that it almost defies belief. The hero of the story, Jettero Heller, is a Combat Engineer in the Royal Services on Voltar. He is on a mission to prevent Earth from destroying itself, so it can be invaded by the Voltarian space fleet per their invasion time-table. His mission handler, Soltan Gris, who accompanies him to Earth, is sent by the Voltarian Coordinated Information Apparatus (CIA), an agency bent on making the mission fail at all costs for their own nefarious reasons. Then there is the Countess Krak, a wild animal trainer and a deadly adversary, as beautiful as a Goddess on the altar of a church, but every bit as cold as that carved stone. Through a twist of fate she becomes the lover of Jettero Heller who disregards all warnings of her background as a cold-blooded assassin. Lombar Hisst, the head of the Coordinated Information Apparatus on Voltar, is determined to gain control of the Voltarian government by putting the Grand Council members and the emperor on mind-altering drugs that are smuggled in from Earth! The only threat to his operation is that Jettero who has arrived on Earth uncovers the illegal drug trade which is why he sends his special troops after him—the Death Battalion. Dr. Crobe, one of Hisst's cronies, is a cellologist whose specialty is the creation of freak shows which sport such novelties as 2-headed females and beings whose legs are interchanged with their arms to name but a few. The freak shows are put on for the entertainment of Lombar Hisst. Babe Corleone is a mafia boss, who Heller befriends on Earth and who runs a whorehouse opposite the UN headquarters in New York. This co-incidence comes in handy for Heller in his plans to influence the UN. The Widow Tayl, a nymphomaniac, is after Soltan Gris and doesn't miss a chance to bed him, yet Soltan must attend to his mission, lest he spoil the plans of Lombar Hisst for which he will pay dearly. The Death Battalion, a troop of lethal assassins, also known as the shock troops of the Coordinated Information Apparatus, spreads terror wherever it appears. Incidentally they are appointed by Lombar Hisst to oversee the success of Soltan Gris in his task to make Mission Earth fail. These are just some of the ignominious characters you meet in Mission Earth. The action starts really heating up when Jettero Heller gets framed with a false identity he is to assume on Earth, oblivious that this identity is the long-lost son of Delbert John Rockecenter — the most powerful man on Earth!

Book Reviews: "It was an un-put-downable read from start to finish. I read the first book in one day, minus any sleep of course. Hubbard grabs the reader's attention and holds it, like no other writer I've read before. Simply brilliant!" - Brian Dolan, Ireland P.S.: I nearly finished Book 2. I won't be back to Earth till I have finished this series. |

Book Reviews:
In his introduction Hubbard says that one of the most important components of science fiction is satire, and he has hit the nail on the head with Mission Earth. His portrayal of the FBI, IRS, and La Cosa Nostra are bitingly sarcastic and accurate. Hubbard is so skilled at his craft that by the end one finds themselves rooting for both his villain Gris and his hero Heller. At least I was. And rooting for a character like Gris is not what you expect, but to me, his self-centered cynicism is somehow endearing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who tends to find humor in just how screwed up our world can be at times. Mission Earth is definitely a 5 out of 5!" - David Mink, Insurance Agent, Kentucky |

Book Reviews: "I was startled to find out how things turned out in this one. First of all, it wasn't the run off the mill stuff. The ideas are so big and the pages just keep turning. I really enjoyed laughing out loud on these books. The characters were so funny and the stuff Soltan Gris was writing was so outrageously hilarious that I just went to read them to laugh myself silly. The books were also full of suspense and wow, the plots were like big mountain ranges that were carefully arranged and I just loved the sense of adventure and drama in these volumes. I was totally hooked on these books." - Jeff Kelley, Reader/Fan/Writer |

Book Reviews: "This is the best sci-fi series next to Star Wars. If you are a heavy reader like I am then you will understand that the words L. Ron Hubbard uses are for a purpose. The series was awesome and I even got my girlfriend who hates sci-fi to read it and she loved it." - Reviewer, eleventh_instinct@yahoo.com |
