Galaxy Press Working Together with YALSA
The Mission of the Young Adult Library Services is to foster learning, personal development, and civic engagement among teens (ages 12–18) in a culturally responsive, information-rich, and technologically advanced environment that spans physical and virtual library spaces to prepare teens for productive and fulfilling adult lives.
Teens Make Up a Significant Portion of Library Users
There are over 40 million adolescents, aged 12–17, living in the United States today, and they use libraries. A 2013 Pew survey found that 72% of 16- to 17-year-olds had used a public library in the previous year.
Libraries provide a lifeline for teens, their families and communities across the nation by providing a safe and supervised space for adolescents to engage in creative, educational activities with caring adults and mentors.
Too often teens’ desire to learn is thwarted by an educational system too focused on testing or are so strapped for funding that only basic resources are available. Libraries live outside of a school’s formal academic achievement sphere and offer a space where interest based learning can occur in a risk-free environment.
Be Part of the Solution
• Inspire the love of reading through L. Ron Hubbard’s fiction works!
• Provide high quality L. Ron Hubbard books and audiobooks to teens which will increase their interest in reading and. in turn, will help improve their literacy and reach to learn.
A three-year study was conducted with approximately 600 students, using the Stories from the Golden Age books and audiobooks, at middle, junior high and high school levels. The results were uniformly rave.
The YALSA Package we provide includes 35 books and 5 audiobooks, Reading Discussion Guides for each of the titles in the package and a free download of a Readers Theater Performance Kit. These do-it-yourself live theatrical reading kits contain everything the librarian and teens will need to put on a performance from one of the stories: script with dialogue and cues, sound effects and music, an instruction guide, program book, and flier to promote their show. Each package is $500.
